{"id":353,"date":"2020-02-05T12:16:41","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T11:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mars.uj.edu.pl\/?page_id=353"},"modified":"2020-02-05T12:16:42","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T11:16:42","slug":"space-weather-impact-study","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mars.uj.edu.pl\/index.php\/scientific-activities\/space-weather-impact-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Space weather impact study"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n<strong>Project realized by:<\/strong>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nAGH Science and Technology\nUniversity and Jagiellonian University (Faculty FAIS)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>Aim of the project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nStudy of the\neffects of solar activity (including UV and X flares, and high-energy\nparticle streams) on ELF wave propagation to test their effects on\nthe Earth ionosphere state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>Project description:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nUsing ELF wave\npropagation research on Solar System planets requires the best\nunderstanding of their characteristics on Earth, where we can cheaply\ncollect extensive ELF observation material and directly measure the\nrange of parameters needed for interpretation of the physical\ncharacteristics of ground-ionosphere waveguide and distortion\nmechanisms to which it is subject. In this project, we intend to\ncarry out extensive measurements of ELF variable electromagnetic\nfields with the help of the JU intercontinental WERA system\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oa.uj.edu.pl\/elf\/index\/projects3.htm\">http:\/\/www.oa.uj.edu.pl\/elf\/index\/projects3.htm<\/a>),\nused\ntogether with the AGH Electronics Department, which conducts\ncontinuous monitoring of such fields. These measurements, combined\nwith satellite data, monitoring the state of space weather and the\nactivity of the Sun, are intended to determine the impact of these\nfactors on the state of the Earth&#8217;s ionosphere and the generation of\nMHD waves in the Earth&#8217;s magnetosphere. It is also planned to work\nwith space air electricity research missions (including ASIM on the\nISS with which LoI was signed) and study terrestrial gamma ray\nflashes (TGF) allowing not only for conducting Earth research, but\nalso for preparation of similar measurement projects dedicated to\nstudy other planets in the future phase of\nthe project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>Project methodology:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>\n\n\t<strong>Conducting\n\tcontinuous EM ELF wave measurement campaign on Earth <\/strong>with\n\tthe help of WERA system. Maintain\n\tthe measuring efficiency of all system stations\n\t<\/li><li>\n\n\t<strong>Analysis\n\tof measurement data and numerical modeling <\/strong>of\n\tstudied processes\n\t<\/li><li>\n\n\t<strong>Laboratory\n\twork on the preparation of a modified version of the ELF measuring\n\tstation<\/strong>.&nbsp;\n\tWork on increasing reliability and enabling the transmission of\n\tmeasurement data online from all measuring stations of the WERA\n\tsystem\n\t<\/li><li>\n\n\t<strong>Preparing\n\tto expand the WERA system with new stations in Asia and Australia.\n\t<\/strong>Preparation\n\tof the installation site and signing agreements on the operation of\n\tthe station on site, construction and target installation and\n\toperation of new stations.\n<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project realized by: AGH Science and Technology University and Jagiellonian University (Faculty FAIS) Aim of the project: Study of the effects of solar activity (including UV and X flares, and high-energy particle streams) on ELF wave propagation to test their effects on the Earth ionosphere state.
